Jewelry by Kat Dei

Kathryn is an Oakland based jeweler, metalsmith and maker. Inspired by mid century modern designs, along side her upbringing in a bay area Eichler community: Kathryn continues to explore the use of lines and shape, with its existence in both negative and positive space.

Metal has always been a material passion. In Kathryn’s early years at California College of the Arts her heart was stolen during a metal smithing class and introduction to welding. Graduating in 2012, her passion for metal work continued- originally the further exploration of jewelry was a hobby with welding work leading in the driver seat. Over time an affinity for working small with precious metals and stones took hold. “working large had its thrills, but as I took on more commission jewelry pieces- I found a different drive and love for creating pieces with a personal and emotional connection.” With the idea of the personal sentiment and expression a jewelry piece can hold for someone, Kathryn decided to launch a line of her own.

All her pieces are created by hand. starting with raw materials: using traditional metal smiting technics to bring her designs into existence.
